From Betamax Guillotine (M&A Friday-PeopleSoft, LiveJournal):
Today was a big day for M&A in my techhie world...
First, Oracle finally finished off a heroic-'till-the-last PeopleSoft. Larry Ellison is no doubt enjoying a Friday night of midget bondage water sports or whatever it is that flips his switches. I'm going to miss this game of David vs. Goliath; this was so much fun to watch day in and day out compared to the usual shallow claptrap of mergers, a much-enjoyed departure from the corporate equivalent of meeting a girl at the bar and then going home with her where you hear "...I've never done this before..." Yeah, sure...neither have I. That's why we're both here, right?
Second, and far closer to home, SixApart (owners of Moveable Type and Typepad, both of which your author loves dearly) bought Danga, the folks who bring you LiveJournal. From the "guilty concious makes for good copy" line of reasoning:
I wonder which of these deals will have the greater importance when we look at these deals historically. I'll put my money on the Six Apart/Danga merger.
