As Patrick noted, I've finished my dissertation and made it through the defense with only minor bumps and scratches. It's all over now except for the revisions and the wait for graduation. I'm still a little too spent to talk too much about either the dissertation or the defense, but I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who graciously put up with my incessant ranting over the last couple of years, endured my flakiness, made random and frequent library runs, indulged my frequent need for emergency late night drinking binges, and pretty much kept me from losing my grip on reality.
Thanks everyone. I don't think I could have pulled this off with out the support of my incredible friends.
This post marks the end of my blogging hiatus; however, I think that I'm going to move the blog off of TypePad. I've been pretty unhappy with their reliability and underwhelmed by their available feature set. I'm toying with the idea of moving to Typo or possibly back to PyBloxsom now that I have the time to micromanage the blog again. Anyone know of a good, cheap ISP that will allow for custom development?
What are fellow academics and friends for if not to help you keep your sanity?!
It's been an honor to be a small part of your dissertation; I have nearly always taken away something interesting for my own research or the seed of a potential interdisciplinary research for down the road from our conversations about different aspects of your dissertation.

I say typo and Dreamhost; even if you decide to go with something other than typo, take a good look at Dreamhost. They're an excellent service...Dean and I use them for our projects and I have a (long suffering and unfinished) personal site on Dreamhost as well.
